Dreams, Dreams, Dreams - An introduction

Since childhood I have been fascinated by the whole concept of dreams and it continues to be a topic of immense interest for me. People close to me are perhaps of the view I am paranoid and take my dreams too seriously.I guess all of us have our own obsessions and I have all the reasons to be obsessed.
So with the passage of time InshahAllah i'll share my findings on different aspects of dreams.The sources of my finding includes:
-The dictionary of dreams and their meanings by Richard Craze ;
-Dreams and Interpretations by Allamah Muhammad Biin Sireen(R.A);

Introduction

In practically every age and culture, dreams have fascinated and puzzled us and we have searched for countless ways to understand their significance and to interpret their meanings. There is a famous story told by the philosopher Chuang-tzu(399-295BC). While sleeping he had a dream in which he dreamt he was a butterfly.He could fly and land on flowers, drawing up nectar and feeling the warmth of the sun on his wings.The dream was so vivid that when he woke he couldn't decide who he was: was he a man dreaming he was a butterfly, or could he be a butterfly dreaming he was a man?
When we sleep we drift into another dimension, a dimension that is not bound by space or time.In this magical land the impossible becomes possible, and the nonsensical appears perfectly plausible.This is the land of dreams, a mysterious shape-shifting world where boundaries dissolve and merge, so that when we wake it can take a moment to distinguish between what is a dream and what is not.
Dreams are from the inner world, having their own internal logic and subjective meaning amd are as valid in their own way as what is happening in the world "out there".

If you remember there was this 'Huge Int' assignment in OOP. Now Owais Ali came up with a very efficient algorithm for implementation of division. Someone asked him how he thought of it and he said he dreamt of it.

that has happened alot to me :)

yeah Attique that was me and Usman Nisar .. that was the time I first met Owais Ali actually .. Me and Usman made the simple versions and he had this ultra efficient algo working :) .. motivated me to make the assignment again!! and I DID! :D

owais's dream inspired you to redo your assigment :-) cool cool
i vaguley remember, maybe sana could correct me, i think it was the os or the ccom project, we(me and sana) were stuck on the implementation for days and one fine morning i discussed this idea with her and it solved our problem and i told her that the idea came to me in a dream and she told me that i should dream more :D and one another time I actually solved this numerical analysis or maybe it was calculus question in a dream and it came in the EXAM the next day!!!

Yes, I believe it has something to do with the subconscious. When we're working on a problem we're feeding the subconscious same data we're consciously working on. And, unknowingly, out subconscious also works on the same data in its own way. When we sleep the conscious mind goes to sleep as well and what we see is our subconscious spilling out its works. I delibrately used to sleep during classes so that my subconscious instead of conscious mind listen to lectures :P. The subconscious always comes up with something different. That's what makes it so cool. Feeling bored... go to sleep :)

PS: Sameer I remember that very well. You said, "Owais Ali ki aisee ki taisee mein bhi efficient algorithm implement karta hoon." :)
And then you did that part sitting in 1st row in Kohsar lab (2nd computer from left, I think).

my beliefs about dreams were pretty ordinary and typical till i met a certain friend whose dreams always came true!!and though i pretty much stick to my old beliefs i will never be able to understand just how my friend's dreams always materialize and take the shape of reality...and these are not simple things like dreaming of code logic...
as far as coding and dreams are concerned...i agree with attique...we're thinking too much about the coding problem and that feeds the sub-conscious...a pretty simple explanation for dreaming of code logic...

There has got to be a divine connection with those dreams which come true. How can you explain it otherwise?

officialwarranty said...

yeah...those whose dreams come true are probably very dear to God...

Abraham Lincoln dreamt of his death before assassination and Kekule's dream of cyclic bonding in benzene started the revolution in chemistry we now know as 'Organic Chemistry'. Quite amazing!
