Another point to ponder

"Have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart. Try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books written in a foreign language. Do not now look for the answers. They cannot now be given to you because you could not live them. It is a question of experiencing everything. At present you need to live the question. Perhaps you will gradually, without even noticing it, find yourself experiencing the answer, some distant day. "

Letters to a Young Poet

Don't even try to like the locked room, be curious about it, only then u'l b able to peep inside. Don't love books in foreign language, translate them, only then u'l get its meaning...Don't live questions, live the answers ;)because you CAN live them

They say that it takes time to realize your blessings. Maybe time is what really matters, and the journey is what counts, not the destination. Maybe it’s the experience of the soul that really makes our souls worthy of the promises of heaven. But I would rather jump in the ocean, and fight like hell to live and survive the nightmare, rather than standing on the shore and living the dreams. I was told that the end of all that lives is death. Then why die standing on the shore, struck by lightning? holding just the dream that was? If you choose to jump in the ocean, at least you had lived for what you believed in. You had fought for what was right, in your mind. So if it were up to me, I would rather embrace the pain of the answers I am kept away from, and die, than live the life of waiting and wondering, wishing and hoping for the books of fate to turn to the page of mercy and hand me down my dreams that I earned without tasting the reality of pain.

wowowowowowow!
IsbahStar, kudos to you for this thought provoking comment!
Indeed it is the journey that matters, not the destination. The path we choose is what makes the journey worthwhile..the result may be the same no matter what path we walk on..but not all paths will make us feel glorified and satishfied when eventually death whispers our name.
my dad often says "when the going gets tough, the tough get going"
you can put up a fight or cowardly submit urself to the circumstances
death is not the end of lives, only a new beginning to the real life...

is there no pain, no suffering, no struggle in being patient and steadfast? the choice we are often confronted with is between being hopefully patient and being forcefully combative. sometimes its just mentally easier to struggle (think quicksand)- yet patience may be prescribed.

so to me the question becomes, when neither of these choices is obvious which way should one err?

"Do your best and then leave it to Allah"
I personally believe that once you have tried and perhaps not succeeded in getting your answers ONLY then you should resort to being patient..and that would be a wise thing to do :) or maybe the only choice left
but if u r being patient without going through a struggle/giving a try, then to me thats not being patient..rather thats being a loser :p like some ppl say..why sweat on it..why should i work for it..if it's in my destiny, if Allah wills it, i will get it khud hee...uffffffffff...i find such statements very very annoying..and when they fail\don't get what they desire they blame their destiny for it! to me trying matters..atleast you won't regret later in life..you would have the satishfaction that u made an effort.
i liked what hira said, one should live the answers and not the questions (Y)
being patient can be the toughest most thing!! Allah answers our prayers/questions in our lifes in HIS right time and there always is reason in it..

i logged on to msn yesterday and read my colleague's tagline...it read..."faith is...at one and the same time...absolutely necessary and altogether impossible"
patience is linked to faith...
that's why they say it's a virtue...
