Think

Millions saw the apple fall, but Newton was the one who asked why.
~ Bernard Baruch

Do our schools, society and set up hamper our thinking? Or are we compromising our own capacity to think? Do the social or cultural filters in place defer our judgment? Do we question the norms, preconceptions, traditions before agreeing on to them? Or do we follow them blindly?

i wonder if he had curly hair ... cos gravity has no affect on curly frizzy hair .. if he had such hair and saw the apples falling he would have been angry at god for not making gravity affect his hair ...

@Syra: no not that ... what im saying is that if newton had curly hair he would have been pretty confused abt everything falling downwards But his hair ... like me ... i have never been able to make my hair 100% firzz-free .. no matter how many anti-firzz products i use .. they always tend to cling upwards to the skies !!! :P
so this quote has always made me think of my hair :P

@Teeba: i wasnt thinking of JDs hair ,,, but now that u mentioned it ,,, im jealous that JDs hair is completely frizz-free :S

According to Wikipedia

"A school is an institution where pupils/students learn from teachers. In most systems of formal education, students progress through a series of schools: primary school, secondary school, and possibly University or vocational school. .."

Here is the "Desi" definition
"A building(could be one room) or a tree under which some children gather to make tea and lunch for their teacher(A harmless creation of God), spend some time together and then go back home"

For some privileged among us, this definition might be weird, but believe me this is true.

I have personal experience of all these things. I studied in a so called English medium school, where "English medium school" was actually written in Urdu :P on a board besides the main road...

But it was considered better than the government schools, where the kids just roam around and you can hear loud voices of children reading the same lesson loudly, and in very interesting tones as well. The best of all was when children loudly "Sing" table of two....:P... ek(1) donee doneee, do(2) donee charr, teen(3) donee chaae(6), char(4) donee atth(8)...

That whats called "Education" over there.

And I must tell you that my village is much privileged than many many other, we got electricity,Telephone, roads and basic health unit, Gov. school for boys and girls and water supply in 60's, thanks to the efforts of one person. But its scary when you think of the people in villages, who are yet to see light bulb glowing in their back yards....

Lolz pata nahi kya kuch bool .. Saira ill write something again when i get some time.

I don't know exactly that what i hav actually matches the topic...

Its a very true scenario that our schools & educational institutes unfortunately don't promote any such thing... but you know what I think... thousands of kids before Newton went to same schools yet only he questioned existence of gravity...

What I'm trying to say is that its more up to individuals... instead of blaming it on society & norms, why not make it our responsibility to look at things with all existing perspectives we can imagine, and then inducing this questioning attitude in future generations.

Cause its a fact that kids who ask too many questions get shushed up much too often, which actually kills the curiosity of nature. so i think primary its an individual's brought up & then secondary is education.

Exactly! The culture and society does tune up the way of thinking but v have been blessed with a brain to think, and a conscious to give us a sense of right n wrong. One may be misguided\pressurized but it requires one moment of reflection upon one self to know whats right and whats not.And then some strength to side with whats right irrespective of what the family\society\friends\elderly\peers think of it.
cloey, clark needs some backing to defeat the bad guys, u with him? :)

hahah! right on !!

Yes so I think before proclaiming that society isnt playing its part in producing intellects...lets look at ourselves and see how far have we tried to think out of box.

Sure! anytime & anything... just lemme know ;)

Thinking out of the box is one step ahead, as a starter we need to start thinking straight and siding with right no matter what! Most of us do know right from wrong, yet surrender to society n family pressure. what a shame!
It's like knowing alcohol is haram, yet taking a sip just to fit in the society and blaming the society for pressurizing u to take a sip..what sort of thinking is that?

so cloey, lets save the world ;)

Well mostly Haram halal is not the issue we badly lack on, (as thats lacking morality and most of us understand it & besides Quran has clearly forbidden it). True problems start when we have to make a decision and we have no direct order regarding it.

Most of issues where Ijtehad (mutual consultation of Muslim Ummah) is required, we actually split into even more number sects!

Honestly clark! we'll have to save the world... else... you'll go back to krypton & I'll die here ;)

lolz! no mam, we ain't dying until the mission is complete else we'll turn into ghosts due to unfinished business :p hmmm, we could haunt the bad guys then :p

on a serious note, we still lack on the basics: lying, hypocrisy, racism, gender discrimination etc etc etc and back ourselves with 101 reasons to justify our actions. BAD BAD BAD!!
