My dog ate my homework

I was walking through a crowd of students, making my way to the girls room, dodging ping pong balls bouncing at my steps, table tennis was being hyperly played nearby. In the shor sharaba I heard a voice calling me.It was one of my juniors carrying crumbled sheets and a very humble look. He handed me the sheets which happened to be his numerical analysis assignment that was due a week ago. The deadline was far gone. Not only that, the late due date had crossed as well.
He insisted I(TA of the subject back then, 2005) accept it for grading and that he was already doing poorly in the subject and couldn't afford losing any marks.I took my folder out and checked the gradesheet.Indeed he wasn't doing well in the subject.
I happened to be in a naughty mood, so I told him that I would consider his assignment for grading if he can come up with a good excuse within two minutes. He stood still, thought for a while scratched his head and then cheekily said "Saira baji, I was at my friends last week, we did this assignment together. We left for dinner, meanwhile the safayee walee (maid) cleaned up the room, and she put my assignment in my friends younger brother's bag and it took me a week to figure out the mystery of my missing assignment and to recover it"
Both of us bursted out laughing.I took his assignment and asked him the real reason for not handing in the assignment in time. So he told me that he was overloaded with projects and other assignments and wasn't able to manage it in time.

Islamic Ruling on Horoscopes

Most of us come up with the argument that I don't believe in horoscopes, I just read them for fun. I happened to do the same thing until yesterday I did a bit of research and found out that it is an act of kufr and should be done away with entirely.

Sunnipath: As for simply reading them, it would be a pointless waste of time and thus blameworthy. When there is any reason to fear being influenced by them, then it would be necessary to avoid.

IslamOnline: Of course, one could argue that there is nothing wrong in a harmless glance at the horoscopes once in a while as long as you as one does not believe in them. But if you have a few glances at the horoscopes, you might find yourself unable to plan your day without looking at them.

SunnahOnline: True Muslims are therefore obliged to stay far away from these areas. Thus, rings, chains, etc., which have the signs of the zodiac on them should not be worn, even if one does not believe in them. They are part and parcel of a fabricated system which propagates kufr and should be done away with entirely. No believing Muslim should attempt to guess his sign. Nor should he or she read horoscope columns in newspaper or listen to them read. And, any Muslim who allows astrological predictions to determine his actions, should seek Allah's forgiveness and renew his Islam.

Water-Symbol of the Power of Woman

I read something interesing last night, here goes
"Water is the source of life, we are generated in water, for nine months we live in it.Water is the symbol of the power of woman, the power that no man--no matter how enlightened or perfect he may be--can capture"

Tree of Education

Several industrial guru's of the CS world were invited to judge a Business Plan Competition held at my university:FAST-NU early last year. Each one of them was requested to speak some words of advice for the youth. While most talked about the CS industry and springing opportunities for the fresh CS graduates, one of them spoke about an ancient tree that beautifully stands next to the drive way in our university. He called it the 'TREE OF EDUCATION'. I can't recall what more he said, or who he was, but I mould the whole concept and say that each educational institute is itself a tree of education.

The students are the fruit of the tree of education. The branches keep extending as each student graduates and continues to seek knowledge as he moves on with life. The branches also grow as the institute expands, say from a school to a college to a university, or opens up another branch. The books and the professors are the chlorophyll and glucose required for nurturing good growth of fruit and most importantly, God's blessing serve as the eternal sunshine.

Prayer

"Oh, Allah, I turn to you because you know everything, even what is hidden. If what I am doing is good for me and for my religion, for my life now and hereafter, then let that task be easy and blessed. If what I am doing is bad for me and for my religion, for my life now and hereafter, remove me from that task"
The Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W)(P.B.U.H)

The Story of the Pencil-by Paulo Coelho

My favourite story from the book "Like the flowing River" by Paulo Coelho

A boy was watching his grandmother write a letter. At one point, he asked:'Are you writing a storty about what we've done?Is it a story about me?
His grandmother stopped writting her letter and said to her grandson:'I am writing about you, actually, but more important than the words is the pencil I'm using.I hope you will be like this pencil when you grow up.
'Intrigued, the boy looked at the pencil. It didn't seem very special.'But it's just like any other pencil I've ever seen!''That depends on how you look at things. It has five qualities which, if you manage to hang on to them, will make you a person who is always at peace with the world.
'First quality: you are capable of great things, but you must never forget that there is a hand guiding your steps. We call that hand God, and He always guides us according to His will.
'Second quality: now and then, I have to stop writing and use a sharpener. That makes the pencil suffer a little, but afterwards, he's much sharper. So you, too, must learn to bear certain pains and sorrows, because they will make you a better person.
'Third quality: the pencil always allows us to use an eraser to rub out any mistakes. This means that correcting something we did is not necessarily a bad thing;it helps to keep us on the roads to justice.
'Fourth quality:what really matters in a pencil is not its wooden exterior, but the graphite inside. So always pay attention to what is happening inside you.
'Finally, the pencil's fifth quality:it always leaves a mark.In just the same way, you should know that everything you do in life will leave a mark, so try to be conscious of that in your every action'

You are bigger than your problem.

Everybody goes through difficult times in life. We may feel as if God has lifted a particular blessing, and we may feel burried by the problems we are facing. In such times we should remember that God hasn't abandoned us. Infact it is always us who abandom Him. He sets us tests, which we should boldly face in the light of Islam. We should turn to God and constantly pray to Him,and ask Him to advise us on the best way to act.
During a treatment recently,a doctor, who is more of a friend and a fatherly figure to me, spoke some wise words, he gracefully said "Saira baiti, always remember You are bigger than your problem" and he explained that God only puts that much burden on us, that we can bear. He never overloads us. His words cured me more than the medicine :-)

A lovely prayer written by the Egyptian Sufi master Dhu I-Nun (d.AD 861)
"O God, when I listen to the voices of the animals,to the sound of the trees, the murmur of the water, the singing of the birds, to the rushing of the wind or to the rumble of thunder, I see in them evidence of Your unity; I feel that You are supreme power, supreme knowledge, supreme wisdom, supreme justice.
O God, I also recognize you in difficulties I am experiencing now. God, let Your satishfaction be my satishfaction, and let me be Your joy, the joy that a Father takes in his child. And let me remember You with calmness and determination, even when it is hard for me to say: I love You."

In times of need and otherwise We should never feel alone, because Allah is always there with us. All we have to do is reach out for him via prayers.
Abu Huryara reported that the Messenger of Allah said, "Allah Almighty says, 'I am in My slave's opinion of Me and I am with Him when He remembers Me. When he remembers Me in himself, I mention him in Myself. If he mentions Me in an assembly, I mention him in a better assembly than them.' If he comes near Me by a handspan, I come near him a cubit. If he comes near Me by a cubit, I come near a fathom. When he comes to walking, I come to him running."

If love is pure, it never ends

Marraige seems to be the talk of the year.Recently I was having a chit chat with one of my friends about it. She was drilling the thought into my head, that the charm of marraige and the love one feels for a spouse more or less ends within a year or so. I gave it a thought and 7 words came to my mind "If Love is pure, it never ends", and I reasoned
With the passage of time one may not feel intensely, and the madness may subdue, but love evolves into care, warmess and security.
